70s Movies:

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

Short summary...

This film is a remake of the 1956 original of the same name, which is based on the novel ‘The Body Snatchers’ by Jack Finney. When strange seeds drift to earth from space, mysterious pods begin to grow and invade San Francisco, California (“A list of 35 Doppelganger Movies - IMDb”). Matthew Bennell assumes that when a friend complains of her husband's strange mood, it is a marital issue. However, he begins to worry as more people report similar observations...

Reminds me of...

This movie reminds me of the 1982 horror flick, The Thing! If you’ve seen neither, then I suppose I shouldn’t give away what make both so similar... but just know the sci-fi duo make a great back-to-back horror watch fest!

My opinion...

This film which I have displayed upon my bedroom wall in poster-form, is a classic! Of course, I recommend watching the original before the remake as there are a few ties, but when you get a chance, this is a must-watch! The movie has a great combination of psychological and physical thriller, both of which will keep you glued to your seat.

Paper Moon (1973)

Short summary...

When Moses Pray is unexpectedly saddled with getting Addie, 9-years-old, to relatives in Missouri after the death of her mother, he attempts to cheat her of her money. The plan backfires, and he's forced to take her on as a partner to and the two slowly grow closer.

Reminds me of...

This movie reminds me of the Adam Sandler comedy/drama, Big Daddy. The sudden ‘burden’ of a child is the same for both films and like both comedies, there is a sad undercurrent in their journeys.

My opinion...

In all honesty, it’s been a little while since I’ve seen this film, yet I still remember the entire thing! As an aspiring little actor, my young self was greatly influenced by Tatum O’Neal’s acting. The style is similar to a silent film, and something else that makes the movie so unique is that both Addie and Moses are father/daughter in real life! It’s a lovely little ‘feel good’ movie that I highly recommend watching at least once!

Freaky Friday (1976)

Short summary...

Mother and daughter duo Ellen and Annabel don’t see eye to eye. It’s not until a particular argument on a Friday the 13th that the two are quite literally, forced to spend a day in the other’s shoes...

Reminds me of...

This movie reminds me of that 2009 Zac Efron flick, 17 Again – but without the cringe (apologies to all the Zac Efron fans out there)! It’s that same type of swap-a-rooney storyline where the protagonist goes under some sort of bizarre change.

My opinion...

I'm sure there’s somebody out there that you’ve wanted to switch lives with for just one day, right? Whether it be your parents, your siblings, your teachers... I sure know I’ve wanted to change places sometimes! This ‘freaky' idea of switching bodies for a day is displayed so terrifically in this comedy-filled flick, allowing your imagination to go wild. I assume quite a few of you have seen the 2003 Lindsay Lohan remake... just know that the original has a totally different storyline that’s worth a watch! Maybe you’ll even be swayed to prefer it... enjoy!

And for your mixtape...

70s Songs:

Intuition

This magnificent, catchy tune was written by John Lennon in 1973 in praise of positivity. For anyone feeling a little stuck, this song is about learning to trust your instincts and follow your intuition, instead of following everybody else's.

Telephone Line

You can thank Electric Light Orchestra for not being able to get this sad yet thrilling ballad out of your head! With the vocals sounding like they’re coming through a telephone receiver; this unique 1976 classic is a must for your Spotify playlist!

There’s Room for Everyone

Hey, promise me you won’t instantly disregard this suggestion once you find out it’s a tune from the original 1977 Pete’s Dragon? Don’t judge a book by its cover, just like this lyrically meaningful piece from a children’s movie musical. This lively number is full of good feeling and cheerfulness!
